I
moved to Washington 5 years ago from the Midwest and have enjoyed every minute
of it. I love to downhill ski, rock climb & barefoot trail run and Washington
gives me the opportunity to do it all. I am a teacher at heart and enjoy
working with people to help them learn new things and realize their goals and
dreams.
My philosophy of training is that not everyone can win a race, but everyone
should be able to run one. Too many people miss out on so much that life has
to offer when they really don't have to. I think Michelangelo summed up
the problem best when he said "The greater danger for most of us is not
that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach
it."

I graduated from Central Washington University with a Bachelor’s degree in
Exercise Science. I am currently working towards my Certified Strength
and Conditioning Specialist certification through National Strength and Conditioning
Association.
I have always had an interest in sports and have played competitively
in soccer, golf, basketball, baseball, tennis, bowling, and rugby. I enjoy
an active lifestyle that consists of hiking, sports, weight-lifting, and nutrition. I
feel that every person is different and will require personalized training methods
to reach their goals.
I always knew I wanted to be in the fitness industry and
have always had a passion to help people. I love seeing people reach their
goals, just the smile on their faces is so rewarding - it makes me happy to be
part of that!

Karen Burton, Personal Trainer
I graduated in 2001 with a degree in Business and a desire to take back control of my life. Having spent the majority of my teen years severely overweight I was determined to lose weight and get in the best shape of my life. I successfully lost 120lbs and have kept the weight off ever since.
I decided a career change was in order when I moved to the United States in 2005 and seized the opportunity to follow my heart and do something I was truly passionate about. I like to think that when I am training clients I give them everything I have to give. I try to make my sessions challenging, informative, inspiring and perhaps, dare I say it, even a little fun sometimes!
I am currently training for my first half marathon in November and am also studying to become an NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist to allow me to further help my clients with injury prevention and recovery.
(update: Karen has since run two half marathons and is now training for her first full marathon.)

For as long as I can remember, fitness has always been the foundation for my existence. After all...what does it mean to live without life itself. I enjoy many passions and hobbies (who doesn't), but the one that drives me is also the one that guides me. My capacity as a trainer allows me the credibility with which to guide others in a commitment to oneself, which is invariably beneficial and can only lead one to succeed beyond the corporeal confines of success iteslf. Health & Fitness along with a well developed sense of self-awareness and a positive source of motivation can grant you this.
Live in the now...but do so in a way that 'indef...nifies' the future.

Exercise for me is a way of life. I have not always held that point of view, if fact I was a "skinny, fat person" with no muscle tone, poor eating habits and no endurance. I started running to try to keep up with my young children and soon got hooked on the results. I hired a trainer to help me learn how to strengthen my body and he encouraged me to compete in a body building competition. I was amazed at how I was able to transform my body into a strong but still feminine look. After winning my competition I knew I needed to become certified and share my new way of life with others. My moto "STRONG is the new SKINNY"
I have been a certified trainer for over 5 years and enjoy being an intricate part of transforming the lives of others. I am passionate about what I do and try to stay on top of all the new trends and forms of exercise including nutrition. My training career has brought me a wide variety of clients including aging adults, children, figure competitors, weight loss, athletes, injury recovery and general wellbeing. I am well versed at nutrition, heart rate training, body weight training, core strengthening, partner training and body building lifting.
Along with my passion of working out in the gym I love to mountain bike, road bike, run, hike, ski, and sit on the beach.

I have spent a good portion of my life over weight. When I reached 170 pounds I decided it was time to lose it.
Shortly after reaching my weight loss goal I got pregnant and gained 60 pounds through out the course of the pregnancy. By the time my daughter was a year old I was finally back down to my pre-baby weight.

Kimberly McMartain - Part Time / Fill - In
In the summer of 2008-in the midst of graduate school-I decided to get certified as a personal trainer. Exercise has been such an important part of my life that it's amazing it took me so long to realize training was something that I wanted to do professionally. Helping others to reach their personal goals is exciting and rewarding; I love to see clients gain confidence in their abilities as they progress.
In addition to my fitness certification, I also hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology. To me, counseling and training are natural partners. I strongly believe in the mind-body connection and the idea that our mental/emotional state affects our physical state and vice versa.
My fitness philosophy is that small changes that can be maintained over the long-term are the key to achieving a healthy lifestyle. Health and wellness are not about being perfect, but about finding a point of balance in your choices that allows you to meet your goals and enjoy your life. You can do this!
